What Personal Data We Collect
It is very important to Samba TV that you understand what personal data we collect about you, how we collect it, and why it’s necessary.
Here is summary of the principal types of personal data we collect:
Why We Collect Personal Data
We collect and use your personal data for the following reasons:
- To provide, maintain and improve our services (for instance, we use information we collect to refine the user experience, fix service malfunctions, test our security systems and increase our technical performance);
- To monitor and analyze how our services are being used;
- To personalize and deliver content recommendations;
- To personalize and deliver cross-device advertisements, and measure and analyze ad performance across household devices;
- To respond to your comments and questions and provide customer service; and,
- To detect, investigate and prevent fraudulent and other illegal activities, and to protect the rights, safety and property of Samba TV and others.
How We Protect Your Personal Data
In our commitment to consumer data protection, we implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to help maintain the security of your personal data. We have implemented industry best practices for information security, including pseudonymization, anonymization, encryption, access restriction, and retention policies to guard against unnecessary or unauthorized use of personal data in our systems.
How We Protect Your Household & Children
Samba TV’s products and services are not directed at children, and children cannot register for our products. When you enable Samba TV, we collect your combined household’s viewing data to support our advertisement and research products. However, neither Samba TV nor its third-party business partners are able to individually identify your child with any data that we collect.
Of course, if you use Samba TV and wish to prevent your household’s viewing data from being used in targeted ad campaigns, you may enable limit ad tracking in the settings menu of your television at any time.
How We Share Your Data
Samba TV may share your personal data with other affiliates in the Samba Group, its service providers, and trusted clients. These parties may be located in your home country as well as abroad. Your personal data may therefore be subject to privacy laws that are different from those in your country of residence.
For example, personal data collected within the European Union (“EU”) and Switzerland may be transferred to the U.S. Samba TV makes all such transfers within the Privacy Shield Framework, which means that appropriate contractual, technical, and organizational measures are in place to protect your data under European law. And in fact, regardless of where you live, Samba TV applies this same standard of protection for your personal data.
For Australian residents, Samba TV may share your data with MiQ Digital Australia Pty Ltd. Please click here for more information on MiQ Australia Pty Ltd. handling of your data.
How You Control Your Data
Samba TV’s Interactive Services will only be enabled if you choose to enable them. They can be disabled at any time through controls in the Settings Menu of your TV.
In the Setting Menu of your TV featuring our services, you will also find additional privacy controls. You can disassociate all the content viewing and marketing information related to your TV by resetting your ad ID. With the Limit Ad Tracking control, you have the ability to decline or “opt out” of receiving personalized ads based on your content viewing information while still enjoying the personalization features of our Interactive Services. Please note that on some of the televisions featuring our services the Limit Ad Track Featuring may be called Ad Personalization. However, they both function the same: enabling Limit Ad Tracking or disabling Ad Personalization allows you to opt out of targeted advertising based on the viewership information Samba TV collects from your device.
Samba TV Mobile also provides you the option of disabling the service at any time after it’s been enabled. And, of course, you have similar controls regarding resetting ad IDs and limiting ad tracking on your Android and iOS mobile devices.
Your Data Rights
Samba TV supports all the rights that its countries of operation grant consumers. The General Data Protection Regulation (“GDPR”) in the European Union and the California Consumer Privacy Act in the United States give certain rights to individuals in relation to their personal information. As available and except as limited under applicable law, Samba TV provides you the means to exercise the rights described below:
OPTING OUT & OBJECTING: You may object to our collection of your data, the processing of your data, the sale of your data, direct marketing, as well as automated decision-making based on your personal data.
REQUESTING INFORMATION: You may request to know the categories, sources, and business purposes of the collection of your personal information, as well as the categories of personal information we have disclosed or sold about you.
MANAGING: You may access your personal information, have us restrict our processing of it, have it ported to another party, as well as have it corrected or deleted.
Please note that Samba TV does not discriminate against consumers who exercise their rights in any manner. For example, Samba TV does not charge you more for services, deny you services, or offer services of lesser quality merely because you choose to exercise your privacy rights.
